50s Vintage Couture Dress

Need a dress to stop traffic? Let me introduce you to this 50s Vintage Couture Dress which will do the job for you. This incredible dress was made by Roecliff & Chapman a British company producing high end womenswear in the late 1940s and into the 1950s. With an address such as Grosvenor Street, Mayfair, London, you know this dress was made for only those who could afford to shop in this exclusive street.  They specialised in women’s eveningwear and ball gowns.  Advertisements featured in high end fashion magazine such as The Lady and Vogue. Describing themselves as “wholesale couturiers” you know you will not see anyone else in this rare vintage dress.

The dress is the typical 50s style with a fitted torso and large circular skirt, typical of the New Look as favoured by Dior at this time. A little black velvet colour is at the neck, and the dress closes with a metal zip at the back. The sleeves are neat at the shoulder and have plenty of volume and gathered at the wrist which is slightly elasticated. Wear a pair of court shoes and some fabulous vintage earrings to compliment this incredible dress.
